Esthetics: The Science of Skin

Esthetics focuses on the health and improvement of the skin. It bridges the gap between beauty and dermatology.

01

The Facial Protocol

  1. Cleanse: Remove surface dirt/makeup.
  2. Analyze: Determine skin type (Dry, Oily, Combo) and conditions (Acne, Rosacea).
  3. Exfoliate: Chemical (enzymes/acids) or Physical (scrubs) to remove dead cells.
  4. Extract: Gently remove comedones (blackheads). Never force it.
  5. Massage: Lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness.
  6. Mask & Protect: Treat specific issues and finish with SPF.
02

Massage Therapy

  • Relaxing: Swedish techniques. Long, gliding strokes (effleurage) to reduce stress.
  • Deep Tissue: Targets muscle knots. Painful but therapeutic.
  • Reducing/Lymphatic: Vigorous movements to break down adipose tissue and drain fluids. Popular for body contouring.

Hair Removal: Wax vs. Laser

Feature Waxing Laser Hair Removal
Mechanism Mechanical. Rips hair from the root. Thermal. Light energy targets melanin in the follicle to destroy it.
Pain High (acute). Medium (snapping rubber band sensation).
Permanence Temporary (3-4 weeks). Semi-Permanent (Reduction of 80-90% after 6-10 sessions).
Cost to Start Low ($100 pot). High ($30k+ machine).
Profit Good steady income. Extremely high ROI once machine is paid off.

Creating Wellness Packages

To increase revenue, bundle services into «experiences.»

Example Package: «The De-Stress Hour»

  • Express Facial (30 min)
  • Neck & Shoulder Massage (15 min)
  • Hand Mask (during facial)
  • Price: $80 (Value $100).

Why it works: It maximizes your time (the mask works while you massage) and increases the ticket price while giving the client a perceived deal.
