Oficios de Belleza: Técnicas Prácticas y Emprendimiento Profesional

Semi-Permanent Makeup (PMU)

Micropigmentation is the implantation of pigment into the upper dermis of the skin. It is a form of tattooing, though shallower and with pigments designed to fade over 1-3 years. This is an advanced trade requiring specific certification and bloodborne pathogen training.

Technique: Uses a manual hand tool with a blade of tiny needles to scratch the skin and deposit pigment.

  • Result: Realistic hair-like strokes.
  • Best For: Dry to normal skin. Young, tight skin.
  • Not For: Oily skin (strokes blur), mature/thin skin (trauma risk).

Safety & Risks

Because you are breaking the skin, the stakes are higher. You are liable for infection and scarring.

The Healing Process

Managing client expectations is 50% of the job. The brows go through an emotional rollercoaster.

Days 1-2: Too Dark+

The pigment oxidizes and sits on top of the skin. Clients often panic that they are "Angry Birds."

Days 3-7: Scabbing+

The skin heals. Brows may itch and flake. Crucial: Do not pick! Picking pulls out pigment.

Days 8-14: Ghosting+

The new skin grows over the pigment, making it look milky or invisible. Clients think it didn't work.

Days 15-30: Bloom+

The color returns as the skin settles. The true result is seen at 4-6 weeks, which is when the "Touch-Up" appointment happens to perfect the shape.

Business Model: Charge a premium upfront (e.g., $400) which includes the 6-week touch-up. This ensures the client returns so you can finish your work properly.
