Manufacturing Giants
Fiberglass pools are manufactured as a single piece (monoblock) on massive molds. This process ensures a seamless, watertight vessel that is transported directly to the site.
The Production Process
Barrier Coat: Behind the cosmetic gelcoat, a layer of Vinylester resin is applied. This is critical. Vinylester is impervious to water, preventing «osmosis» (blistering) which can plague polyester-only pools.
Structural Core: Layers of chopped glass and roving are applied. Many manufacturers use a «spray-up» chopper gun system for speed, combined with hand-laid woven roving for directional strength.
Ribs and Beams: To keep the pool stiff during transport and installation, hollow ribs (often cardboard or foam forms glassed over) are added to the outside of the shell.
Logistics and Installation
| Aspect | Fiberglass Pool | Concrete Pool |
|---|---|---|
| Installation Time | 1-2 Weeks | 3-6 Months |
| Site Impact | Minimal (Crane lift) | High (Heavy machinery/mess) |
| Flexibility | High (Good for clay soil/seismic) | Low (Rigid, prone to cracking) |
Transport Note: The size of the pool is limited by road transport regulations. This is the main design constraint for monoblock pools.
